End-to-end encryption (E2EE)
E2EE is a security measure used when transferring media from a client device (phone) to a Frameo device (frame). It works by encrypting data on the sender's client device (phone) and only making decryption possible on the recipient's device (frame), hence the term "end-to-end."
This means that even we in Frameo, as the service provider facilitating the communication, cannot access the decrypted data. E2EE protects data from being intercepted and read by anyone other than the intended recipient, including hackers and government agencies. It is used to safeguard privacy and ensure confidentiality.
NB: Please note that since frames are designed exclusively for home use, the media presented on them is not hidden behind a password screen and can therefore be physically accessed by anyone in the home.
Client-side encryption
The Frameo+ feature, Cloud Backup, uses client-side encryption to ensure only you can restore your media.
In practice, your data is encrypted on the Frameo device before it's transmitted to a server. When using our cloud backup service, all your media, the settings and configuration of the frame and all the data in relation to your media (e.g. metadata, captions and reactions) are encrypted before being safely stored in the cloud.
When using client-side encryption, the encryption keys are generated and stored on the frame, meaning you, as the user, has full control over them. This ensures that the data remains encrypted even when stored on servers or transmitted across networks. Only the authorized user with the correct encryption password can access the original data
Client-side encryption is used to provide an additional layer of security and privacy for user data. It reduces the risk of data breaches and unauthorized access, as we as the service provider or any third-party entity cannot access the data without the decryption key.
