If a photo does not fit the frame perfectly, the frame automatically crops the photo to fill the entire display. The cropping will be centered around what the sender selected as the important part. This is just to ensure that the selected part won't be cropped out under any circumstances.
Example
What is shown in the little circle, is not the only portion of the photo that is received by a frame. It is simply there to ensure, that if the entire photo does not fit in the frame's screen dimensions, what you choose to be in the circle will be centered on the frame.
